Gilles COLLIARD

Soloist, conductor, composer and teacher, Gilles Colliard is a musician with many talents. First violin of the Ravel Quartet, violin teacher and artistic director of the Baroque Music Department at the "Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional" of Toulouse, he is also since 2004 musical director of the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra.



Born in Switzerland, Gilles Colliard studied at the "Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique" in geneva with Jean-Pierre Wallez. During his time there he won first prize in virtuosity and several other prizes (soloist diploma, pierre Fernex pirze...).  He perfects his playing with Tibor Varga and also specialises in the performance of the Baroque repertoire on ancient instruments. In 1996, Christophe Coin invited him to join him as first violin for several tours in famous international locations as soloist or in the chamber ensemble. He is regularly invited to play in festivals (Casals, montreux, Berlin, Santander...) and has played in Paris (Châtelet), Tokyo (Kyoi Hall), London (Queen Elisabeth Hall), Moscow (Conservatoire Tchaïkovsky), Berlin (kl. Philarmonie), Geneva (Victoria Hall).

Gilles Colliard is interested by all repertoires. He has performed concertos by Brahms, Beethoven, Bartok, Tchaïkovsky, Paganini… with orchestras such as the London Soloist Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Concentus Hungaricus of Budapest, the North Carolina Orchestra, the Philarmonic Orchestra of Bohemia, etc.… He strives for authenticity in the musical discourse and tries to fight preconceived ideas by overcoming the eternal quarrels which arise between the ancients and the moderns.  He has done over twenty recordings (entire works of Haydn, mozart, Bach, works for solo violin and a number of his own works). Several of these recordings have been awarded prizes (ƒƒƒƒ Télérama, Diapason d’Or, Monde de la Musique…).

He plays on a 1732 Antonio Stradivarius violin.
